home is where...?

Back in Maine and wishing i was in windy, snowy, northern New York instead. There may not be a lot to do there, but it'll always be home. My family is back home. My friends, my job, my life is here. Why is that? Why do we feel like we need to always be somewhere else? Are there people that are just never happy because they always want to be where they aren't? The only way to survive this parallel is to immerse yourself in life here until it is time to face the reality of there again. And where is a good compromise?

I'm still on vacation with too much time to think apparently.

me time

Hello from Vacationland. It's been a extremely nice treat to be on annual leave from work for 11 days straight. It's s plurge I was willing to cash in on. Hopefully I will return to work refreshed and renewed with a glimmer in my eye and a song in my step.

Sometimes the best part of having time off is not doing anything! Relaxing and catching up with people and ordinary things. A break from the hectic lives we've made for ourselves. I hope to take something away from this vacation and learn to slow down a little, say no a little more and make some time for me in my busy schedule. I'd like to schedule 1 or 2 nights a week that I make a date with myself to sew, read, scrapbook, watch a movie or just do something I want to do. When we lose time for the things we most enjoy, everything else takes more of a toll on us and the things we do not enjoy seem even more unbearable.

This year I vow to make some me time, how bout you?

Merry Christmas; Screw Happy Holidays

Merry Christmas is now not considered PC. Since when does wishing someone well need to be PC? If they don't appreciate the greeting screw 'em! We wrote Merry Christmas on our Christmas cards this year and although I thought it might offend our Jewish friends, I thought "hey, this is our holiday and when they want to start sending me Happy Hanukkah cards, I'll thank them, but until then, it's Merry Christmas, or you won't be getting a card."

I love Christmas. I love the food, the drinks, the presents, the fire in the fireplace, the family and friends, the everything. I think Christmas lights should be up all year, they are so festive and evoke happiness. They always mesmorize me.

So Merry Christmas until next post...(and don't be spreading that Happy Holidays crap behind my back)!

thanks a lot mother nature

just when you think you've got a little money in the bank, it snows and you realize a Toyota doesn't handle like a Buick and you need 4 new snow tires. awesome. and here i think i'd have some money for next semester's class or Christmas. right.... so i guess this proves the whole global warming idea wrong...it's pretty darn cold here on the coast...feels like January or late February, rather than December. we got dumped on. at least i'll be home for Christmas. homemade presents it is haha.

hello from the land of overtime

Been working my tail off to rack up the comp time and a little extra dough for the holidays. decided i am going to take that abnormal psych class if only for enjoyment. who knows where I'll be in 2 years so might as well keep my options open. i scored a pretty sweet schedule at work starting in 2 weeks I'll have Fridays and Saturdays off! It only took me a year to get a piece of the weekend. not bad. Life's been crazy lately, hoping it'll calm down soon and looking forward to going to my parent's house for the holidays. the weeks are flying by and in 26 days it'll be Christmas.

Happy Turkey and Shopping Day

The biggest shopping day of the year and I have it off! The real question is: Do I want to be part of the madness? Probably. Prepared and cooked my first turkey with Dre. We had a lot of fun, worked well together and worked on Thanksgiving dinner from the minute we woke up until we ate at 5pm. Then dishes and stripping the bird were just as labor intensive as the preparations. I broke out in the hives. nice. we ordered our Christmas cards this morning, enjoyed some coffee from our fabulous coffee maker that has a timer to brew when you wake up, and I'm looking forward to the Christmas Tree lighting. It won't be the same as last year, my parents aren't here for it, but every year is different and that's Ok. Possibly the first Thanksgiving I did not spend with my family. Hitting up 'Beans and Target at the very least today. Looking forward to going home for Christmas. All my overtime will pay off in a month when I can go home for a week straight. We are going to get a small Christmas tree today of tomorrow, since I took tomorrow off. I love this time of year. Still not sure what I am going to do regarding classes next term. I'll figure out life issues soon I hope. I am so very lucky to have such good friends and a wonderful, loving family. Thank you!

purpose

currently highly motivated to find my purpose. someone is looking out for me from up above. today in developmental psych our paper topic involves career development. finally a homework assignment that will make a difference in my life. it only took 8 years.

community service vs. art therapy, the next battle i must fight.
event planning and helping people or helping people through art.

this paper is going to decide my future. i can't wait to finish it.

the missing (art) link

Trying to figure out what to do with your life is kinda hard! and such a long process. I've decided I miss doing art, even just sketching JW in dance moves. "I wish I could go back to college....I'd sit in the Quad and think oh my god, I am totally gonna go far!" Yeah, how quickly dreams get replaced with paychecks and bills. Signed up for Abnormal Psych for the Spring semester. Hopefully after that class I will know if art therapy is something I want to pursue. Otherwise I spent $700 for nothing this year. I was a different person when I was doing art. I miss that person. A part of me is in hibernation I think. Suggestions always appreciated.

soup

Tried my hand at some cooking today in between doing psychology homework. Two soups and a coffee cake later and only one fire. not bad. a great day for soup. the first soup was Italian meatballs with veggies and noodles, the second, an apple chicken curry (reminds me of a chutney) and a simple apple coffee cake, which only burned slightly on top. apparently, when they say 9x9, they don't mean or whatever pan you would rather use. pot holders should be fire retardant, don't you think? that's just dumb. and who knew that a burner was like fire. i thought it was just a hot contained coil. not so much.

25 and holding...

who is this for...me?
...I am not off traveling or seeing the world. I am just living a "normal" life with abnormal days off. taking everything one day at a time currently. trying to get my life in order before I turn 30. is this feasible? we'll find out.
